In 2005 David Retzlaff bought what remained of
a building that had burned down over 50 years before. Little
did he realize the direction his life would take from there.
What started as an interest grew to a passion, and then to what
some, including him, might call an obsession. In detailed
narrative, David explains thorough and meticulous research into the
Stanley Toy Company, the people, and buildings surrounding the
December 1949 fire which destroyed all but the brick addition to the
78 year old edifice. His eloquent prose leads the reader
through the time before, during, and after the mysterious blaze.
Through this book David brings to life the history of the Stanley
Toy Company that might have been lost if he had not determined to
pursue and preserve it. He leaves us with a lesson to find
those stories in our own lives that should not be forgotten. |
